Dickerson: Obama Has Credibility, Political & Legacy Problems Due To Obamacare
CBS News political director John Dickerson joins the "CBS This Morning" co-hosts to discuss the president's announcement that people can keep their original insurance plans and how it will impact the implementation of the law.
CHARLIE ROSE: So after all of this, and all of this press conference, where does the president stand with the American people?
JOHN DICKERSON: Well, first, he has a credibility problem, which is that his signature claim he made about being able to keep your insurance, that is still wobbly, he’s trying to fix that. He’s got a political problem in that his party is grinding on him, and he’s also got an operational problem, which is, he’s not sure he’s getting the right information because of this website disaster, he admitted that he didn’t know it was going to be as bad as it was. And then finally he’s got a legacy problem, because he said, “I’ve got to win back some credibility from the American people, that’s awful tough to do, winning back credibility once you’ve lost it. There aren’t a lot of opportunities that come, and that’s why we put a big gold start to this end-of-November date that they’ve set for the website working. Why does that matter? The website has to work in order to have the Affordable Care Act work. Also, when they roll out whether it is working or not, that really is a credibility test, and that’s really at the heart of this right now.
