Tom DeLay Discusses Overturned Conviction On Mike Huckabee Radio Show
TOM DELAY: Let me put it in perspective a little bit. When the Republicans took over for the first time in 60 years in 1995 we did some pretty amazing things. And the left and the Democrats didn't like it. And the next year they announced publicly that they were going to take me out. And they entered some ethics charges that year, they were dismissed a year or so later. In '98 more ethics charges. They even filed a racketeering suit against me, all of it thrown out. In 2000 more ethics charges, and then they get this Ronnie Earl who as you say is well known for using his office to go after his political enemies, Democrat or Republican. He indicted Kay Bailey Hutchison on a frivolous indictment, who's a Senator in Texas. They got him to indict me frankly on a law that doesn't exist in Texas. We don't have money laundering of campaign funds in Texas. But, it was in the most liberal part of the nation - Austin, TX. And from there you can get a liberal jury. We even did a poll - 90% of people in Austin, TX knew me and hated me.
