Sen. Leahy: Bloomberg Hurt Gun Control Effort
C-SPAN: Has anything changed since then, in the dynamic in the Senate?
SEN. PATRICK LEAHY (D-VT): I don't know. I do not see how, as much as I'd like to get that through, I mention that as something that I think would make a lot of sense and the vast majority of Americans agree with, but it is not going to get through now. And it's unfortunate because, could you pass one law that would stop all the gun violence in this country? No. But can you do a lot better than we have? Yes. And, unfortunately, you have some on the left like the mayor of New York City who actually didn't help a bit with his ads. He actually turned off some people that we might have gotten for support. And then you have some on the far right who say the Second Amendment allows us to have anything. So you can take a machine gun to go deer hunting. There's got to be a balance in between.
