MSNBC: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has gone after GOP Sen. Tom Coburn after Coburn criticized Cruz for wanting to shut down the government to defund the president's health care law. Mike Barnicle and the Daily Beast's Tina Brown join a conversation on Sen. Cruz, why shutting down the government isn't a good idea and why the GOP is "holding a winning hand" over Obamacare. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) also joins the conversation.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Have you seen what Ted Cruz is doing?
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Well, yes.
SCARBOROUGH: He’s just going crazy on Republicans. Makes me sad when Republicans say bad things about other Republicans.
BRZEZINSKI: We could start there, it’s in Politico.
SCARBOROUGH: Ted Cruz is attacking anybody that’s not willing to shut down the government over Obamacare. He’s lambasting fellow fiscal conservatives like Tom Coburn. Tom Coburn. And saying that he serves in the , quote, “surrender caucus.” So, a guy comes in – I’ve got to be very careful about what I’m going to say – I will just say Ted Cruz comes in. Obviously so completely ignorant about the war that Tom Coburn has been fighting for twenty years. And to say something like this about Tom Coburn…
Ted Cruz… ugh… He is a total train wreck. He is comparing Mitch McConnell to Barack Obama, he is attacking Tom Coburn as being a member of the “surrender caucus,” when Tom Coburn, and yes, Ted Cruz, I put our political lives on the line more times in six months than Ted Cruz will put on the line his entire lifetime.
MIKE BARNICLE: If I were little Teddy Cruz, I would be extremely cautious about getting into the ring with Tom Coburn. I mean, Ted Cruz would end up being Kid Candle in that fight. One blow and he would be out.
TINA BROWN: Jon Favreau’s written a great piece in the Daily Beast about this whole trend now about not the small government conservative, but the no government conservative, and that is what Cruz is a member of. This is the Taliban.
MIKA: It’d be like Rand Paul taking on Chris Christie…
