Brit Hume: What Else Is In Immigration Bill?
BRIT HUME: The first thing you need to know about today's Senate vote is that it would not cut off debate in the immigration bill itself, only on this so-called 'Border Surge' amendment. There will still be many hours and days of debate left on the bill itself, and it's a good thing too. It's almost always the case that members of Congress vote on bills without actually reading them. That's because legislation is written in a nearly incomprehensible legalese with each section full of bewildering cross-references to other sections of the bill and existing law. So members understandably rely on summaries provided by staff experts. But when a bill swells to over a 1,000 pages as this one has and as Obamacare did, all kinds of stuff can slip by undetected.
