Scarborough Takes On Martin O'Malley Over Funding Entitlements
Gov. Martin O'Malley (D-MD) and Fmr. Senior Advisor to President Obama David Axelrod join "Morning Joe" to discuss the president's Affordable Care Act and dealing with Medicare on a state and federal level.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Politicians do need to tell the American people the truth about Medicare and Medicaid. You do understand that not only will people have to pay more for their Medicare -- wealthier Americans -- but all beneficiaries are going to be getting less in 10, 15 years from now. And medical providers are going to be getting paid less. Do you understand that? That is basic math.
GOV. MARTIN O'MALLEY (D-MD): Joe, I don't accept your premise that we are doomed to always be parting with 10% increases, 15% increases in healthcare. We've got to focus on wellness, we have to focus on --
SCARBOROUGH: Oh my God. No, no, excuse me Governor. This is a matter of basic math.
O'MALLEY: It's also a matter of effectiveness.
SCARBOROUGH: You can look at the OMB (Office of Management and Budget), you can look at the Congressional Budget Office, you can look at the Peterson Foundation, you can look at the Concord Coalition, you can look at liberal economists, you can look at conservative economists. This is a matter of basic arithmetic, you can't fudge your way out of this.
