While Montana is traditionally thought of as solidly red, in truth it is quite competitive at the state level. So it isn't really that surprising former state Sen. Ryan Zinke, the Republican nominee, has a somewhat competitive race on his hands against former congressional aide John Lewis. Democrats haven’t won a congressional race in Montana since 1994 and the national climate doesn’t favor the Democrats right now, so Zinke is the clear favorite, but Lewis is hardly out of it.
