In 2011, Democrats took a Republican district in the Illinois heartland and made it into a swing district by connecting the Democratic portions of Springfield, Bloomington and Champagne. Still, Republican Rodney Davis managed to win the district in the good Democratic year of 2012.
Democrats had high hopes for their nominee, Rep. Ann Callis, a former judge and attorney. But her candidacy doesn’t seem to have taken off. If election night is a disappointing one for Republicans, this one might pop back up on the radar screen.
